New Medical Office Building Construction to Begin on Kearney Regional Medical Center Campus

BD Construction, Inc. of Kearney, Neb., one of the Midwest’s leading construction companies, has been selected to build the 48,000-square-foot Medical Office Building on the campus of the new Kearney Regional Medical Center (KRMC) in southwest Kearney near Yanney Heritage Park. The building will be the new home to multiple medical offices and clinics.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Medical Office Building will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at 804 22nd Ave. in Kearney.

“Many forecasts and studies have identified healthcare as a business sector with significant growth potential in central Nebraska,” said Mark Benjamin, BD Construction president and CEO. “We are glad we can bring our significant experience in this area to bear on a project we expect to benefit the entire region.”

The building is owned by Medical Office Properties, L.L.C., and will house a laboratory, physical therapy facility and pharmacy as well as a small cafeteria along with fully functioning outpatient clinics and offices, including Platte Valley Medical Group and spine surgeon Dr. David Benavides. A glass corridor will connect the building to KRMC.

“We are excited about the move to the new facility, and we’re all about keeping things local,” said Dr. Ron Dobesh, president of Platte Valley Medical Group. “Using a local construction company with local contractors makes the entire construction process easier and keeps the control where it needs to be.”

Benjamin said that only Platte Valley Medical Group and Benavides have signed formal agreements for the new building to date, but leases with several other clinics are in the works. The building is expected to be complete early in 2014.
